Established Neighborhoods, Persistent Birds

Paradise Valley Village is the City of Phoenix's northeast urban village, separate from the incorporated Town of Paradise Valley, and solar panel repair here can involve pigeons. The city describes the village as several established residential neighborhoods with open space shaped by the surrounding Phoenix Mountains. Older roofs, mature yards and open land nearby add up to good bird habitat, and the shaded gap under a rooftop array is a favorite nesting spot.

What nesting does to a system

  • Droppings and nesting material collect under and on the panels.
  • Debris holds heat against the roof and the back of the panels.
  • Birds and the rodents that follow them can damage exposed wiring.
  • Droppings on the glass shade cells and lower output.
  • Noise and mess around the eaves become a daily nuisance.

Our bird proofing process

We remove nests and debris, clean the roof under the array and the panel faces, and check the wiring for damage. Then we fit a mesh barrier around the array's edges, attached to the panel frames with clips designed for solar. Nothing is drilled into the panels or the roof. If wiring was chewed, we repair it before the mesh goes on.

Not the same as the Town

The Town of Paradise Valley incorporated in 1961 and has its own building rules. Paradise Valley Village is part of Phoenix, so City of Phoenix rules apply when a repair needs a permit. If you are not sure which side of the line you live on, your property tax bill or the city's village map will tell you.

Washes and wind

The Indian Bend Wash greenbelt runs through the area and was designed as a flood control channel. Monsoon storms bring gusts and dust; after a big one, check your monitoring for a day or two. A sudden ground fault or a dead string after a storm can point to wind-shifted wiring or debris under the array.

A changing core

The village core around Tatum Boulevard and Cactus Road, where Paradise Valley Mall opened in 1978 and was demolished in 2021 to 2022 for a mixed-use redevelopment, is seeing new construction. Construction dust settles on nearby roofs, so a cleaning visit can recover lost output.

Call (602) 461-8077 if you hear birds on the roof or see droppings along the eaves.

Paradise Valley Village Questions

Can you remove birds that are already nesting?

We clear nests and debris before installing mesh. If there are eggs or chicks, timing can matter, and we will talk through options with you on site.

Does bird mesh void my panel warranty?

Clip-on mesh does not drill into panels, which is why it is the standard approach. Check your panel warranty terms if you are unsure.

Am I in Phoenix or the Town of Paradise Valley?

The village is part of Phoenix; the Town is a separate municipality. Your tax bill or the city's village map will confirm, which matters for any permit.
